The HygienePlus solution consists of four protective measures:

Two highly effective filtration systems reliably reduce bacteria, microplastics, pharmaceutical residues, pesticides and chlorine-related compounds that may be present in the water.
The PureProtect self-cleaning function keeps water circulating, even when the dispenser is not in use, preventing stagnation.

The ThermalGate™ thermal hygiene barrier prevents external contamination from entering the unit (e.g. through sneezing or contact with the dispensing outlet).

Through many years of experience in healthcare environments, we have continuously refined our water dispensers to meet the requirements of hygiene-critical locations.

BRITA HygienePlus has been tested in several studies conducted by independent hygiene institutes, including the University Medical Center of Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, where its microbiological safety was confirmed in accordance with the strict requirements of German drinking water regulations.

BRITA HygienePlus: Proven four-zone protection

HygienePlus includes four highly effective hygiene stages:

  1. Clarity Protect Inlet Filter: A pre-filter removes larger particles. Activated carbon reduces substances that can affect taste and odour, while a hollow-fibre membrane reduces pharmaceutical residues, organic contaminants and metals such as lead.
    The hollow-fibre membrane also removes: 99.999% of bacteria (including E. coli and Legionella)
    99.95% of cysts
  2. PureProtect: Self-Cleaning Function
    Regularly circulates water through all water lines and the Clarity Protect filter, preventing stagnation and microbial growth.
  3. CLARITY Safe X3 Filter: An additional bacterial filter located directly before the dispensing outlet.
    Its dual-layer membrane removes: Microplastics 99.99999% of bacteria (including Pseudomonas aeruginosa)
    99.95% of cysts
  4. ThermalGate™: A thermal disinfection system that automatically heats the dispensing outlet to over 125°C every 90 minutes. This prevents contamination at the outlet (e.g. caused by sneezing or hand contact) from entering the internal water system.

The life of your BRITA water dispenser begins in our hygiene-certified production facility in Italy.

  • Assembly is carried out according to strict hygiene regulations.
    Random batch testing of critical components helps ensure hygiene safety.
  • Production staff receive regular hygiene training.
  • Every water dispenser undergoes 100% microbiological testing.
  • Following approval, all device surfaces are cleaned and disinfected before shipment.

Hygiene at your site

Our service technicians also follow strict safety and hygiene procedures when handling and installing your water dispenser on site. During installation, the system is chemically cleaned both internally and externally.
Regular chemical cleaning of the unit by the BRITA service team as part of routine maintenance ensures the reliable performance and smooth operation of the water dispenser.

Regular on-site cleaning

Regular cleaning of the external surfaces of the water dispenser is an essential part of maintaining hygienically safe operation.
To proactively prevent contamination on site, BRITA provides detailed cleaning instructions for individual components as well as information on suitable cleaning agents.
